So Rylee, she is a tough character. She’s sixteen, and is the victim of a series of consequences that have shaped her life. ‘Today I want to talk to you all about consequences. It’s a noun, meaning a result or effect, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant. Pronounced…Konsikwenses. When I was born, I made my mother a single parent, consequence of a one night stand.’
Her love of parkour is something that makes her push to her limits, and sets her free, momentarily. ‘I don’t know. Near the building I want to jump from, next to the building I hope to land on, standing in the car park where if I miss, I’ll splatter.’
She wants to do well at school, to escape her current situation. However she hadn’t factored in meeting Cooper, or falling for him. ‘Could Cooper and I be friends? I snorted. I had no idea how to be a friend to anyone. The rules of friendship moved on without me, and I was lost. How could I be friends with anyone, especially a boy? With Lillie it was easy. But Lillie had never threatened to ask me out, nor did she have devilish green eyes and a seriously cute smirk. I shook my head. Forget his smirk. Forget his eyes. Think about passing grade twelve and having a real future. Cooper could not be part of my future.’
Rylee ultimately makes a decision that leads to tragedy. She is destroyed and has everything she loves taken from her.
